“Why are immigration evaluations useful?”

Immigration evaluations provide an opportunity to document the psychological impact of an individual's experiences in a clear, thorough, and clinically supported manner. While legal records and personal statements tell an important part of the story, a psychological evaluation offers professional insight into how trauma, hardship, abuse, persecution, or family separation have affected a person's emotional well-being and daily functioning. A well-written evaluation can help decision-makers better understand the human impact behind an immigration case by presenting objective clinical findings in an organized and compassionate way. Although no evaluation can guarantee the outcome of a case, it can serve as valuable supporting evidence for many types of immigration petitions.

What I Do

I provide assessments for the following types of applications:

Two other hands are reaching up from below, one closer to the camera and the other further away, both open and reaching toward the sky. • These evaluations assess the emotional, psychological, financial, and practical hardships that a qualifying U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident family member may experience if separated from their loved one or required to relocate outside the United States. The report documents the potential impact of these circumstances and provides clinically informed findings relevant to the waiver process.

  • Asylum evaluations explore the psychological effects of persecution, violence, threats, torture, or other traumatic experiences that may have occurred in an individual's country of origin. These evaluations can help document trauma-related symptoms and provide context regarding how past experiences continue to affect an individual's functioning and well-being.

  • The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) allows certain individuals who have experienced abuse by a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident spouse, parent, or adult child to seek immigration relief independently. These evaluations assess the psychological impact of the abuse and help document the emotional and mental health consequences of those experiences.

  • U Visas are available to certain victims of qualifying crimes who have suffered substantial physical or psychological harm and have assisted, or are willing to assist, law enforcement in the investigation or prosecution of criminal activity. Evaluations help document the emotional and psychological effects of the crime and its aftermath.

  • T Visas are designed for survivors of human trafficking. These evaluations assess the impact of trafficking-related experiences, including trauma symptoms, emotional distress, and the ongoing effects these experiences may have on daily functioning and recovery.

  • These evaluations focus on documenting the potential psychological hardship that qualifying family members may face if an individual is removed from the United States. The report provides a detailed understanding of the emotional and mental health implications of separation or relocation.

  • Every immigration case is unique. If you have been advised by your attorney that a psychological evaluation may strengthen your case, I welcome the opportunity to discuss your specific circumstances and determine whether I may be able to assist.

Two hands engaged in a handshake, with one hand appearing more aged and the other more youthful, against a plain background.

After gathering all necessary information, I carefully review the findings and prepare a comprehensive, professionally written report tailored to your immigration case. The report clearly outlines the relevant clinical information and psychological findings.

Once your report is complete, it will be provided to you and/or your attorney for inclusion in your immigration petition. I remain available to answer questions and coordinate with your legal team as needed throughout the process.

  • The evaluation process typically begins with a confidential interview in which I gather information about your personal history, current concerns, and experiences relevant to your immigration case. Depending on the circumstances, the process may also include reviewing supporting documentation and administering clinically appropriate assessment measures.

Following the evaluation, I prepare a comprehensive report that summarizes the information obtained, outlines any relevant clinical findings, and explains how those findings relate to the legal standards associated with your case. The completed report is then provided to you or your attorney for submission as part of your immigration application.

  • Yes. Immigration attorneys and psychological evaluators serve different but complementary roles. Your attorney provides legal guidance and advocacy, while I offer an objective clinical assessment of the psychological factors relevant to your case. When appropriate, I collaborate with attorneys to ensure the evaluation addresses the issues most pertinent to the immigration petition.

  • The timeline for completing an immigration evaluation depends on the complexity of the case, scheduling availability, and the type of evaluation being requested. In general, evaluations include one or more interview sessions, review of relevant documentation, and preparation of a comprehensive written report. If you have an upcoming deadline, please let me know when you reach out, and I will do my best to accommodate urgent requests whenever possible.

  • A psychological evaluation can provide valuable supporting evidence by documenting the emotional and psychological impact of your experiences in a clear, professional, and clinically informed manner. However, no evaluator can guarantee the outcome of an immigration case. Final decisions are made by USCIS or the immigration court based on the totality of the evidence presented. My role is to provide an objective, thorough evaluation that may strengthen and support your case.

  • Fees vary depending on the type of immigration evaluation, the complexity of the case, and whether expedited services are requested. The base fee for an evaluation begins at $1,000. During your initial consultation, I will discuss the anticipated cost, what is included in the fee, and answer any questions you may have so you can make an informed decision before moving forward.

Payment plans are accepted in order to make services more accessible.

  • Getting started is simple. Click the “ask a question” button and fill out your information to schedule an initial consultation. During that conversation, we'll discuss the next steps in the process.
